This simple, fresh salad works year-round and comes together in minutes thanks to marinated mozzarella balls. It’s quick, easy, and full of flavor without much effort.

Soft bites of cheese and juicy tomatoes mingle with fresh herbs and a hint of tang from the marinade. It tastes light yet rich, with the perfect balance of creamy and bright.

It’s a side dish that doesn’t ask much of you, just a few ingredients and a little chill time. Simple, reliable, and always welcome at the table.

What I need to make this recipe

Making a shopping list before heading to the store helps keep things stress-free. It ensures you don’t miss the small ingredients that make this salad shine.

One of the ingredients is pretty important: the marinated mozzarella balls. You will be using the mozzarella AND some of the marinade from the container of cheese. So don’t throw it out, and don’t rinse the mozzarella balls before using.

  • cherry tomatoes
  • marinated mozzarella balls
  • marinade from mozzarella balls
  • fresh thyme
  • garlic powder or granules
  • black pepper
  • salt

Swap in basil to give it Caprese vibes, so good and fresh! Or try oregano for a deeper flavor, or even parsley for a fresh twist. Any fresh herb can lend its own character to the salad.

You can use fresh garlic in the recipe, but I chose powder or granules because I want to avoid overwhelming the flavors of the cheese and tomatoes. Always do what works for you!

Serve This Salad With

This is a summery salad, but you can serve it anytime of the year. Cherry tomatoes and mozzarella balls are available all year round in most markets. Serve it with oven-fried chicken or oven-baked BBQ ribs, but honestly, serve it with everything!

Storage

Cover tightly and refrigerate for up to two days. Since this salad contains salt and sliced tomatoes, the tomatoes will begin to soften and become juicy during storage. It still tastes great 24 hours after making, though, and it’s not too juicy to enjoy.
