How to Freeze Oreo Truffles

Place the truffles on a baking sheet and freeze until solid, then transfer to an airtight container or freezer bag. They’ll stay fresh for up to 3 months. Thaw in the fridge when ready to serve.

What You Need To Make Oreo Truffles

  • regular oreos
  • softened cream cheese
  • peppermint extract
  • white melting chocolate
  • crushed candy canes
  • food processor
  • bowl
  • saucepan
  • silicon spatula

If the amount of peppermint extract seems too much go ahead and add just half to start. Then taste test it adding more as needed. If you don’t want ANY peppermint extract OR don’t have any leave it out, add vanilla extract and top with crushed candy canes.

Tips for Making Cookie Truffles

If you’ve ever made these truffles before you know they can be a bit of a pain. They’re not hard but if you don’t get the mix right they will be too crumbly. Or they might be to sticky. Either situation can hinder proper shaping.

If you find yourself with a crumbly mixture add a little more cream cheese. If its too sticky grind up another Oreo or two and add that to the mix.

Once you’ve formed the mixture into balls, go ahead and freeze them for a couple of minutes to solidify them.

To Dip Truffles

Candy melts are a safe bet when it comes to making these. They’re specifically made for this kind of candy making. They’re easy to melt, and they don’t seize up when melting. You can microwave the candy melts, too!

To make dipping easy, make sure the truffles are cold (or frozen) poke a toothpick into a very cold truffle and swirl through the melted chocolate. Set on the same cookie sheet and sprinkle with crushed candy canes.

To Store

Store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to a week. Or freeze in an airtight container for up to 3 months.

To Serve

Place the truffles on a platter or in a cookie tin to serve. You can also place each truffle in a mini cupcake paper for serving.

Sharing

  • Presentation Tips: Use mini cupcake liners to make the truffles look polished and keep them from sticking together. For a decorative finish, drizzle melted dark chocolate or white chocolate on top, or sprinkle a few extra crushed candy canes after the chocolate coating has set slightly.
  • Packaging for Gifts: Gift boxes, tins, or treat bags lined with parchment paper are ideal for these truffles. Make sure they’re stored cool and avoid stacking too many to keep them looking neat.

Extra Ideas

  • Variations: Try making these with chocolate or peppermint Oreos for a new twist! You could also experiment with adding mini chocolate chips to the Oreo mixture for extra texture.
  • Decorating Tips: For a festive look, add colored sprinkles, drizzle with melted dark chocolate, or top with festive sprinkles before the chocolate sets.
